BOOKS TALKS MEDIA LESSLAWN
April, 2012

One great thing about speaking is meeting gardeners and hearing their questions and comments. Another is meeting my fellow speakers. I shared the stage at the Rotary Gardens Annual Spring Symposium with these insightful, inspiring directors of two great gardens: Tim Gruner of Anderson Japanese Gardens and Dr. Norm Lownds of 4-H Children's Garden.
March, 2012

Before starting this Spring's speaking tour, we celebrated the publication of Beautiful No-Mow Yards with not one but two Book Bashes in the Twin Cities. Friends and strangers arrived to eat, drink, and chat about gardening, with several small-world stories as people recognized each other from the past or from different settings. Thanks to Three Crows Cafe and Covington Inn for making these events memorable.

Grateful to artist Shari Zimmerman, who designed a new logo for LessLawn, with a fresh, lively color scheme that I've spread around the website. Also grateful to my fellow garden writers who wrote entertaining, photo-filled anti-valentines to the lawn and love letters to lawn alternatives.
January, 2012

Advance copies of Beautiful No-Mow Yards are being sent out for reviewers. Look for it at your local bookstore in late February (or pre-order now online)!
December, 2011

I'm taking photos of seedheads and other winter garden elements and preparing several new talks for next spring.
November, 2011

Highlights of my visit to drought-stricken Texas hill country: a day wandering the gorgeous grounds of the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, touring local gardens with Austin blogger and garden designer Pam Penick, and walking barefoot in a native grass lawn of newly developed Habiturf(TM).
October, 2011

This fall, I'll travel to Austin, Texas, to explore gardens that have been affected (or not so affected) by the summer's extreme drought. I'll be taking photos and gathering details to include in next year's events on "Lawnless Western Gardens."
